The monument dedicated to a traditional dish of a region – Poltava Halushka was opened on April 1st, 2006 on the occasion of anniversary of Mykola Gogol.
The “eatable monument” brightly illustrates the words “These are Poltava Halushkas!” («Ось які! Полтавські галушки») taken from a famous song (music by V.Mishchenko, lyrics by A. Lykhoshva). The monument symbolizes abundance, prosperity and unstinted hospitality of Poltava family. The monument is represented by a deep plate with seventeen tasty Halushkas which everyone wants to eat. There is a large spoon near the plate on embroidered rushnyk. It seems that Ivan Kotlyarevskyi personally looks out of the window of his house located so closely. He looks glad at unique Ukrainian dish set in stone and praised in his evergreen “Eneida” poem.
Besides, the monument to Poltava Halushka is one of the few monuments glorifying national cuisine and its representative dishes.
