The building was reconstructed in the beginning of 40s of ХІХ century. Since then there was built a grand entrance to the principle front and the building itself became three-floor and symmetric to six columns.
Up to 1856 in the building there was also located a military chancery alongside with government house of governor-general of Poltava province. It is interesting to note that during 1816–1834 years the position of governor-general was held by Mykola Repnin-Volkonskyi – military and government leader of Ukrainian origin and literature inspiration of one of the main heroes of “War and Peace” novel by L.Tolstoy – Andrii Bolkonskyi.
M.Repnin-Volkonskyi – the husband of granddaughter of the last hetman of Ukraine Kyryl Rozumovskyi – was the initiator of opening of many educational institutions in Poltava: School for Noble Maidens, Gardening School and Cadet Corps. Besides, with direct participation of the governor-general a talented actor Mykhailo Shchepkin was released from serfdom. And Dmytro Bantysh-Kamenskyi – an outstanding Ukrainian historian who under protection of his director performed publishing of “The history of Little Russia” worked as a servant at chancery of Repnin-Volkonskyi. In different years the administrative building in the Round Square of Poltava was visited by prominent participants of the Decembrist movement: Mykhailo Novykov, Matvii Muravyov-Apostol, Volodymyr Raievskyi, Mykhailo Bestuzhev-Riumin, Pavlo Pestel, Serhii Kapnist.
In the days of the Soviet regime this building was used with different purposes: in 1917 the first governorate congress of councils took place there, from the beginning of 1920s there was located a children’s technical school and then – a police school.
Its modern appearance the building acquires in the end of 50s – beginning of 60s of ХХ century having underwent significant changes in the appearance in comparison to initial appearance. Since that time, it became the administrative building of Poltava regional trade union council.
