The last building in terms of construction time which appeared in the Round Square is the Building of Petrovskyi cadet corps. It was built in 1840 upon the project of the architect M.Bonch-Bruevich. This is the biggest building of architectural ensemble: length of the principle front – 117 m, height – 23 m, total height with consideration of height of the dome of block warden church – 34 m. For the longest time in this place there was a free plot of land designated for construction of Poltava gymnasium for men. In 1832 in order to decorate this land and give finished appearance to the square all private houses of Poltava lower middle classes were pulled down and in their place there was built a “house with decorations” – plywood miniature which existed up to 1836. The same year the construction of Cadet Corps was started. At the time of ceremonial opening it was the third military educational institution of such profile in Tsarist Russia where the cadets could study not only from Poltava but Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Katerynoslav provinces.
The teachers of Poltav acedt School were famous people of those times: one of founders of secret anti-villeinage Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius – Vasyl Bilozerskyi, the member of Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius, one of founders of Scientific Community of T.Shevchenko in Lviv – Dmytro Palchikov, famous painter – Vasyl Volkov, one of founders and member of 1-st International Olympic Committee – General Oleksii Butovskyi. Graduates of this educational institution were: famous violinist, conductor, member of direction of Poltava department of Russian Musical Society – Dmytro Akhsharumov, outstanding painter and founder of Poltava Art Museum – General Mykola Yaroshenko.
In 1920 within the walls of the Cadet Corps there was opened the Infantry Training School. During two years the Army General Hero of the Soviet Union – M.Vatutin studied at this school. From post-war years and to the beginning of 90s there was located Poltava higher air defense missile commanding school of Army General M.F.Vatutin.
